Supported by an educational grant from Mannkind
Pediatric type 1 diabetes can feel like an unfamiliar terrane, with what seems like exotic nuances, for many primary care clinicians. This practical, evidence-based session serves as your "survival guide" to recognizing early warning signs, interpreting diagnostic findings, understanding insulin management, navigating continuous glucose monitoring, managing illness and physical activity, and partnering with families, schools, and pediatric endocrinology. Using current ADA, AACE, and ISPAD recommendations and real-world scenarios, clinicians will gain confidence in working with endocrinology in caring for children with T1DM from initial presentation in primary care, urgent care, or the emergency room to sick day management, sports participation, school, activities, refills and beyond.
*Due to rapidly changing clinical knowledge, once purchased, you have 90 days access to complete this education.

- Review the epidemiology, pathophysiology, and presenting features of type 1 diabetes mellitus
- Recognize early warning signs of T1DM in pediatric primary care and urgent care settings and identify when urgent evaluation or escalation is warranted
- Interpret key diagnostic findings indicative of diagnosis and ongoing monitoring of patients with T1DM.
- Identify major principles of insulin dosing, including oral insulin options, and adjustment in pediatric T1DM patients related to daily management, illness, and sports or activity.
- Apply practical, evidence-based approaches to quality of life for patient and family, including patient/family counseling, sick-day considerations, and reinforcement of safe self-management strategies
- Strengthen coordination of care with pediatric endocrinology, caregivers, schools, and school nurses to support continuity and safety
