Sepsis: 2023 Updates for Best Practice

This session will provide updates in best practice for sepsis care based on the changes in the 2021 Surviving Sepsis Campaign (SSC) and will help the learner easily assimilate the changes on the topics of fluid resuscitation, vasopressor use, antimicrobials, adjunctive medications, and patient education.

Michelle presents throughout the United States on nursing and nurse practitioner topics specific to the adult and geriatric population.
She is a chapter contributor for the “Textbook for the Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner: Evidence-Based Standards of Practice” and a reviewer for Clinical Guidelines books. As a clinician Michelle was awarded the 2018 AANP Nurse Practitioner State Award for Clinical Excellence in Vermont by leading a project to reduce the rate of re admissions to hospitals from local nursing homes. Her efforts helped decrease the rate of readmission by about 70% in 1 years' time.

Currently she’s the Lead Hospitalist at Gifford Medical Center in Rural Randolph Vermont and active on several Committees. In her role as a hospitalist she cares for a diverse population in a small town and works to teach patient’s about their illnesses as well as improve their health.

Michelle is a duel certified Adult Gerontological Nurse Practitioner in both Primary and Acute Care for over 10 years, a fellow in the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, adjunct faculty at Vermont State University, active in state and National nursing and nurse practitioner organizations, currently the Co-chair of the AANP awards committee and present elect for the Vermont Nurse Practitioner’s Association. She works to advocate for patients on a daily basis.
