Gut Bugs: Updates on the Treatment of Clostridium Difficile and H. pylori

This lecture will review the general pathophysiology and epidemiology of C.diff and H.pylori and outline at risk populations as well as appropriate diagnostic testing and current management strategies.

After taking part in this educational activity, participants should be better able to:

-Discuss the epidemiology, pathogenesis and diagnosis of Clostridium Difficile (C. diff) and Helicobacter Pylori ( H. Pylori)
-Understand emerging antimicrobial resistant patterns for both diseases
-Review evidence based first line treatment strategies for C. Diff and H. Pylori
-Discuss options for management of relapse and salvage therapy when first line treatment fails

Christina received her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Bethel University in St. Paul, MN where she graduated cum laude in 2001. In 2005, she returned to school to obtain her MSN after completing the Family Nurse Practitioner program at Regis University. She graduated with honors and was nominated for the Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society. Christina has been working at South Denver Gastroenterology since 2007 as a nurse practitioner, treating patients with both GI and liver disease and she is a sub investigator in the research department at SDGI. She is a course director and board of trustee for GHAPP and has had the opportunity to participate in educating other healthcare providers across the country as a national speaker. Christina enjoys running and traveling, and she loves spending time with her husband and two beautiful daughters playing in the mountains of Colorado.
